The case of A.B v. Hawaii State Department of Education (DOE) is a recent case out of Ewa Beach, Hawaii that outlines a Title IX class action settlement at the largest public high school in Hawaii: James Campbell High School. In October 2023, the approval of equity within the participation of high school sports for male and female student-athletes. This case discusses the overall purpose of Title IX and how it is applied to typical subjects with certain perspectives. The timing of this granted notion was during the 50th anniversary of Title IX’s establishment, which couldn’t be anything shorter than a coincidence. The recognition that this case had received had persisted in its original state of not being taken seriously. Reputable sources, such as the New York Times, were able to attract the necessary attention that was needed for the dire situations that many female athletes face, not just those on the island of Hawaii.


The ruling of the case worked a great deal to gain awareness for the equitable treatment needed within the dominion of high school sports, furthermore, this case opened the door for young female athletes who experienced similar situations. Overall, the influence of this case had a lasting effect not just classwide, but nationwide as well.
